JEZ sits down for a serious chat with Atlanta’s own AnnaLynne McCord.
She opens up about her precocious childhood, the disillusionment of Hollywood
and how she managed to fi nally bring her East Coast support network out West.
s AnnaLynne
McCord speaks,
I’m trying unsuccessfully
to shake the
images from my mind: those of her
character, Eden Lord, a predatory Lolita
and A-1 femme fatale, as she douses a
plastic surgeon and his ex-wife with an
urn full of cremated remains. Lord’s
fictional mother (represented now by a
slow-motion cloud of ashes) took her
last breath on the operating table due to
complications stemming from her antidepressant
use, which began after she
accidentally shot her lesbian lover–who
also happens to be the operating surgeon’s
ex-wife. Seriously. No wonder
Nip/Tuck is such a guilty pleasure, and
a huge success, what with that kind
of shocking and salacious action from
week to week. But my problem was
separating McCord from Lord–figuratively,
of course–and trying to figure out
how this easygoing Atlanta-area native
could shift into the devilishly debauched
persona I’d spent the past two hours
watching on YouTube, mouth agape.
The actress eagerly assuages my
fears. “It’s always funny when fans of
the show come up to me and say, ‘Oh,
my God, you’re such a bitch! So, are
you like your character?’ ” McCord
laughs. “It’s called acting, people, it’s
not real.” Even more so, her character
is a far cry from the real McCord–a 21-
year-old bombshell and up-and-coming
young actress in Hollywood.
McCord began pursuing her career very early in life. At the
age of 9, she knew her calling and set out to achieve it. “Acting
was always my outlet,” she recalls. “I memorized all of Romeo and
Juliet’s parts, and would run around the house screaming [them] until
someone yelled at me. It would drive everyone–including my sisters–
absolutely batty.”
