Atlanta’s luxury driving club gives members a variety of rides

Ever dream of a garage full of luxury or exotic cars, but don’t have the bank balance to make it a reality? No problem. Atlanta Driving Club offers you the perfect solution: a selection of cars at your disposal.

Sound crazy? Actually, founder Scott Hoover thinks the club premise makes perfect sense. Instead of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for the purchase and maintenance of high-end vehicles, membership in Atlanta Driving Club provides members with the opportunity to drive an array of autos to suit your mood and/or occasion. The sun’s shining and you want to cruise out to the lake? Take out the convertible. Headed to a swanky black-tie wedding? Slip behind the wheel of the Bentley. “Some people call it a flexible time-share for cars,” says Hoover, a self-proclaimed car aficionado.

Currently, the club owns six cars, ranging from a 2005 Bentley Continental GT to a 2000 Porsche Boxster. Hoover plans to add a few cars later this year, perhaps a classic Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and a Lotus Elise. “I want cars in the collection that members are excited to drive,” he says.

Is there a demand for this type of program? Hoover certainly thinks so. He became interested in the concept after reading about a similar program in New York. “I thought, ‘What a tremendous concept!’” he says. “‘How do I join?’ But I couldn’t find one in Atlanta.” After searching around the city for something similar and getting encouragement from friends, Hoover started Atlanta Driving Club in June 2006. To date, the club has 14 members, with more in the application process.

Becoming an Atlanta Driving Club member is a relatively easy process. To join, prospective members complete an application, pay a $1,500 initiation fee and undergo a driving record check. Once approved, members pay a fee based on their desired membership level. Now they are ready to drive.

Club cars are reserved based on a points system, and reservations should be made approximately one month in advance to ensure availability. Cars can be booked for a minimum of two days and a maximum of seven days. All cars include unlimited mileage, a benefit Hoover says all members love. Additional membership benefits include access to club events, on-site detailing of personal vehicles and 24/7 roadside assistance with club vehicles.

If you love cars, an Atlanta Driving Club membership will put you on the road to happiness.
